Inspection and replacement of concrete ties
Since the summer of 2022, a precautionary program has been underway to inspect and replace concrete ties. The inspection program was initiated as a result of the train accident in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on June 3, 2022. The tragic accident was caused by defective concrete ties.
By mid-2026, DB InfraGO had replaced more than 2.5 million ties. The concrete tie program will also be continued in the coming years to replace defective ties at an early stage in accordance with the updated regulations. In addition, DB InfraGO has tightened the regulations for monitoring concrete ties several times. DB InfraGO has taken findings from inspections and investigations as an opportunity to expand the already high standards of existing inspection and maintenance processes. Stricter criteria now apply for classifying defective ties.
DB InfraGO will compensate the affected TOCs for the damage that has occurred provided that the construction measure could not be properly scheduled within the established time frame. The TOC must describe the damage and provide supporting documentation.
