- Battery trains:
- Between fall 2026 and 2029, a total of 44 battery trains are set to largely replace the diesel multiple units currently in use by the Zweckverband ÖPNV Rheinland-Pfalz Süd special-purpose association. The conversion and expansion of the DB Regional depot in Kaiserslautern for the new trains were completed in May 2026 and training for employees began.
- In February 2026, DB Regional, together with the local transport area Leipzig special-purpose association and Nahverkehrsservice Sachsen-Anhalt GmbH, unveiled the new Mireo trains for the Mitteldeutschland S-Bahn (metro) network 2025plus. Of the 34 trains 16 are battery-powered and are replacing the existing diesel trains on the region’s non-electrified lines. The new trains are scheduled to go into service in December 2026.
- Electric trains: DB Regional has been operating electric trains in the Ahr Valley since March 2026. Parts of the line were completely destroyed during the 2021 flood disaster. The line was equipped with overhead wires during its renewal, allowing the previous diesel trains to be replaced.
- Electric buses: In the first half of 2026, DB Regional Road put 35 electric buses into service on routes in the Dithmarschen area, in Husum and in the municipalities of Leimen and St. Leon-Rot, among others.
