Personnel measures as part of the “restart”

As part of the Group transformation, DB Group is consistently pursuing the goal of becoming significantly leaner, more profitable and more efficient. This is accompanied by a targeted reduction in personnel requirements and socially responsible job cuts, with a particular focus on overheads.

The transformation process and the associated personnel reduction proceeded as scheduled in the first half of 2026. DB Group is particularly keen to ensure employee-focused solutions that are consistently socially responsible and that are developed in a trust-based cooperation and supported constructively by our social partners.

Employees at companies where the collective bargaining agreements of the German Railway and Transport Workers Union (Eisenbahn- und Verkehrsgewerkschaft; EVG) apply are covered by extensive protection against dismissal. For the majority of the employees affected alternative positions within DB Group’s intra-Group labor market can be found. DB Group is also making use of natural turnover and instruments such as part-time work leading up to retirement and severance packages.

Employees affected by workplace changes receive comprehensive support under the “Job Restart” program to help them find new positions both within and outside of DB Group.

At the same time as the workforce reduction, DB Group is continuing to hire new employees, particularly in operational roles. DB Group plans to hire about 20,000 employees in 2026, including 5,200 young talents (vocational trainees and dual-degree students).
