Digitalization

In order to drive the digital transformation, DB Group has established comprehensive digitalization measures and targets.

• Data and artificial intelligence (AI): DB Group is further expanding the use of AI in 2026, from specialized applications in operations and maintenance to scalable use across its specialist departments. The introduction of Copilot Chat has established an easy way to access AI-powered assistance. Building on this, Microsoft 365 Copilot enables the integration of these features directly into key productivity applications and supports employees. In software development, for example, many employees are already working with AI copilots such as GitHub Copilot and Kiro.

All applications run via the central AI ecosystem, which prevents redundant tool landscapes, speeds up implementation and ensures compliance.

• Project Argo: With Project Argo, DB Group has set itself the goal of migrating all existing SAP R/3 systems to the SAP S/4HANA platform and implementing process and system optimizations. The following progress was made in the first half of 2026: the SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) system was implemented at the maintenance depots in Dessau, Cologne, Magdeburg, Munich and Wuppertal. The Atlas master data management system was implemented on a Group-wide basis in conjunction with the SAP business partner. Within the vehicle maintenance system, improvements in the area of materials management were implemented using Argo.
• Cybersecurity: In February 2026, DB Group was the target of a large-scale cyberattack that disrupted booking and information systems, among other things, due to a deliberately induced system overload. The integration of the Group cybersecurity program with a focus on IT information security into the relevant line organization was completed at the start of the year. The Group cybersecurity program will continue with a focus on OT (operational technology) security. Measures to further enhance information security are being implemented on an ongoing basis.
